Questions not answered by Buddha [1]
One day, it was raining, there was a visiting wanderer. Venerable Ānanda led the Uttiya to see the Buddha. He introduced the Buddha to the wanderer, wiped his hair with a towel and invited him to sit. After the courtesy greetings, Uttiya on the subject immediately:
- Ladies and ascetic Gotama, the world we're in forever or will sometimes being destroyed?
- Uttiya friend, please do not answer that question.
- So, please tell us whether our world is on the border or not with borders?
The Buddha sat quietly. Uttiya said:
- Gotama, I would like to raise all my questions here and ask the gynecologist for answers as follows:
1- Body and soul are one or two?
2 - After death, Gotama often lost?
3 - After death, Gotama just passed away?
4- After death, Gotama dharma is no longer lost?
The Buddha continued to sit quietly. Uttiya felt uncomfortable, asking again:
- Any question I ask, sahib also did not answer. Why ?
The Buddha replies:
- Because of his questions raised there is no benefit for the practice to achieve enlightenment and liberation.
Then a few days back there was a wanderer named Vacchagota to visit the Buddha [2] . He also asked the same questions as Uttiya's questions. The Buddha also sat quietly, not answering. Vacchagota put forth the last question:
- Gotama, please tell me whether there is a fall or not fall?
The Buddha remained silent. Vacchagota got up and left.
After Vacchagota went away, Venerable Ānanda asked the Buddha:
- Buddha, in the lecture Bhagavan has taught moral self. Why did not the Blessed One answer the question of Vacchagota's heir?
- Ānanda, the doctrine of anattå which Tathagata teaches to the mendicants is a meditation guide to destroy self, not the doctrine of "no-self" . Vacchagota's question is only intended to know the Tathagata's position on the self, so the Tathagata can not answer, because the answer is to fall into the circle, or accept, or accept. Ānanda, wanting enlightenment and liberation, needs to eradicate all the attachments. It is better for them to assume that they do not know more than to put them in the yes / no.
Tathagata does not come from anywhere nor go anywhere. [3]
One day, Venerable Anuruddha was in the am in Mahāvana in Vesālì, a group of pagan foreigners came to socialize and then questioned as follows:
- We heard that Gotama is a perfect enlightened man and the Dharma of a very noble man. You are a disciple of Gotama. So tell us, after Gotama's death, is there still existence?
Then the monks forced the Venerable Anuruddha to choose one of the following four answers:
A) After death, Gotama dies.
B) After death, Gotama died.
C) After death, Gotama is just passing away.
D) After death, Gotama is no longer lost.
Anuruddha knows that in the four answers there is no answer in accordance with the Buddha's Dhamma. You are silent. But the travelers did not approve of that silence. They force you to say something. Finally the Venerable said:
- Dear friends, to my knowledge, in the four answers there is no statement about the truth of Gotama.
The scribes laughed at each other:
- Consider this monk is a novice or too dark so he can not answer his question. Well, we should go for it.
When they finish talking, they leave.
A few days ago, after the sermon of the Buddha, Venerable Anuruddha brought the incident to the Buddha. He said:
" Lord, let the Blessed One give us light, so that we may learn more and be able to answer when asked the same questions."
" Anuruddha, where do you think Gotama is now?" Can you find avatars Gotama in this body?
- Lord, do not.
- Can you find avowed Gotama in feeling (feeling)?
- Lord, do not.
- can be found ascetic Gotama where thought, where actions and words, or where knowledge is not?
- Lord, do not.
- So, Anuruddha, can you find avatars of Gotama outside this body?
- Lord, do not.
- can be found ascetic Gotama beyond feeling?
- Lord, do not.
- can be found ascetic Gotama thought outside, external actions and words, or outside knowledge not?
- Lord, do not.
- Yes, this Anuruddha, Gotama saxa is not in the five aggregates is rupa, feeling, perception, action, consciousness; Gotama dharma is also not outside the five aggregates; Gotama dharma is not at the place where the great is the place, water, fire, leprosy, ants and consciousness; Gotama dharma is not out of the ordinary. Talking to Gotama in any place, whether or not it is, is not true. So far Tathagata only declared suffering and phase suffering. This is Anuruddha, Gotama satan is sitting here and he can not confirm whether or not after the genie Gotama extinction then how can he say or lose? Hey Anuruddha, after the fire goes out, where does the fire go?
" Anuruddha, you should know the self, the nature of all things is Tathàgata, the mystery, the immortal, the immortal, the immortal, the whole which rotates, transforms like magic, Can not say whether or not, or lost. So Tathagata does not come from nor go anywhere .
The Buddha had long ago said that the mendicants remained silent, silent, thoughtful, without saying a word. END=NAM MO AMITABHA BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH GIAC TAM.THE MIND OF ENLIGHTENMENT.VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=GOLDEN AMITABHA PURELAND=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY=14/5/2017.
