Sudinna, Father of Seeds [1]
Eight years ago, on the 12th, there was Sudinna Kalandaputta, one of the richest families in Kalanda village near Vesalia, to the Mahàvana monastery hearing the Buddha sermon. Hearing he was enlightened, feel bored life of the world, the Buddha allowed the monk. Buddha told him to be the only son in the family should have asked for permission from parents first. He went home and asked for permission from his parents, but his parents said,
- Sudinna, I am the only son of the parents. Parents love, love, spoil the child. From childhood to now, I have been nurtured in happiness, taken care of, not knowing anything about suffering. If you die, your parents have to suffer, but your parents do not have the heart to leave your family, living away from home, homeless, begging for food, while eating this large family. The watch will fall into the hands of others. No, parents love children, you should understand for parents, parents do not take heart to leave the family.
Mr. Sudinna lay down to the ground, fasting for four consecutive days. His friends advised not to be any way, advised his parents should let him go home there is hope he changed his mind when the extreme cold, or at least can see his face later . His parents could not see the baby lying on the ground without food or drink, his body was puffed up, allowing him to go home.
Being allowed to go home, he was very excited, believed tons of luck, lack of education, living in the forest, begging in the order of each house. After a long time, the father knows that the great Sudinna is now in Mahàvana with his wife to invite the greatness of the home offerings, then the two grandparents conspired with the ex-wife of great virtue and begs. You should leave a legacy to keep your family. At that time there is no clear precepts about this so the virtue agrees. Then the wife became pregnant and gave birth to a baby son named Pho Bijaka (Seed).
The mendicants learned that this mocked Sudinna as the father of the Seed. When the Buddha learned to call the great Sudinna great rebellion and set the study of the world directed at the following ten benefits:
1-The good to the congregation.
2- Peace of the congregation.
3- Overburden and prevent evil deeds.
4-Encourage a peaceful and peaceful lifestyle.
5- Prevent the gonorrhea (ssava) [2] in the present.
6- Elimination of gonorrhea or in the future.
7- Give faith to the unbeliever.
8- Give more faith to people who have faith.
9- Strengthen the existence of the Dharma (Saddhamma), including Pariyattisaddhamma, Patipattisaddhamma and Adhigamasaddhamma.
10- Advocacy.
After the Sudinna, Lord Buddha gave the following precepts : " The monks who perform the couples are guilty of pàràjika (pāràjika), are not allowed to reside Asamvàsa) in them . "
Angulimàla left home after killing 999 people. [3]
One morning, the Buddha went to the alms-giving place of Sàvatthi. Almost done, he found himself sitting alone in a jungle. When he was done, he got up and went to the suburbs in a large, deserted road. Some farmers saw the Buddha, rushed to say:
" The Lord, this road today is very dangerous. It is said that the killer Angulimàla is now present in this area. He is a very violent man, killing people does not hurt, the military are afraid. Whenever he killed someone, he cut his little finger, put it on his neck, now he has thousands of fingers.
Many people have come to see the Buddha, say so. But the Buddha just thanked and went on. Angulimàla saw the Buddha, hidden in the shadow of the trees, watching for a moment and then finished the path to pursue. At first, he ran slower, later he ran faster and faster, until he was sweating and still did not catch up with the Buddha, while he saw the Buddha only to walk gracefully. He exclaimed loudly:
- You geez, stop!
- Angulimàla, although walking, Tathagata has stopped. And he, he stopped yet?
- Hey, you do not lie, do not you lie? He said he had stopped, why am I running after him without catching up?
- Yes, Angulimàla, Tathagata has stopped long ago. It has long been that the Tathagata is no longer killing or injuring any single human being. And he, he killed how many lives with the evidence of flowers with his fingers on his neck. His hands and his soul were covered in blood. It is he who must stop. Angulimàla, can not find happiness by killing. Murder only causes horror, hatred and misery. Angulimàla, only the action fun, suffering, gentle with people, forgive all the mistakes of others bring happiness only.
Angulimàla was very surprised. No one ever dared to come near him. Nobody dared to look at him from afar. Yet today the monk seemed earnestly standing in front of him, looking straight into his eyes, using mildly exhortation to admonish him. Yes, he is none other than the Gotama that he heard. Angulimàla let go to the ground, fell down at the foot of the Buddha, then weeping and said:
- Buddha, you are Ahimsaka (innocent) prostrate Buddha. I was very sorry to meet the Sun too late. I have caused so many crimes, can not stop anymore. I have no way to atone for my past mistakes. The people and the people will not let me down.
" Ahimsaka, being good, penitential, returning to the righteous life, is never too soon or too late. Ahimsaka, if he joins the almsgiving congregation, determined to live a life of virtue, diligently follow the Dharma, then the Tathagata will have a way to protect him.
- Buddha, pray from here to repent, abandon evil to do good, determined according to the Buddha to learn compassion. I wish the Buddha to accept me as a disciple.
- Come here, bhikkhus Ahimsaka, live lives of holiness!
At that time the great saints Sāriputta, Ānanda, Upàli, Kimbila and many other monks appeared. Or believe the Buddha is going to the area is threatening Angulimàla, the great virtue rush to find the Buddha. Now see the Buddha peacefully and Angulimàla submitted, everyone is happy. Buddha told Teacher Upàli to Ahimsaka's hair; Ānanda gave Ahimsaka a sanghati; Sàriputta and Upàli teach some basic precepts and dharma teachings. Then everyone goes to the Jetavana monastery.
Going to the Jetavana monastery, Angulimàla tells the Buddha of his life as follows: Angulimàla (Ahsaka Ma, Vo Bau) at a young age named Ahimsaka (The Innocents). My father is Bhaggava, the great monk of Pasenadi of Kosala. Mother is Mantàni. He was brought up by his father to Taxila [4] (Taksasila) to study with a famous master. Ahimsaka was so smart that he became a brilliant disciple. That is why his friends are jealous, spoiled talk he has a good relationship with his wife. The teacher convinced his words, angered Ahimsaka by commanding him to kill a thousand men and depositing a thousand of the right hand fingers of his right hand so that he could transmit many special miracles. For ten days in a row, Venerable Ahimsaka was praised by the Venerable Upàli for the precepts and the virtue of Sariputta teaching the doctrine and methods of meditation, walking meditation, alms, Learn and practice very diligently. Half a month later, when visiting Ahimsaka at his am in a quiet place in the Jetavana monastery, Lord Buddha was surprised by his progress. Ahimsaka became a solemn mendicant, gentle with calm speech.
The Angulimàla rumor that had been requested by the Buddha came to the king of Pasenadi. The people and courtiers are all feeling light. The prestige of the Buddha and the mendicant congregation is stronger. Just a month after Angulimàla's ordination, King Pasenadi visited Jetavana's monastery and asked:
" Lord, I heard that the murderer Angulimàla has requested to follow him, right? Where is he now? Did he do anything to harm the Blessed One?
- Sir, Angulimàla indeed was ordained. He is currently reciting in an am in the quiet place in the clinic. I have decided to reform the righteous, living life, practice diligently. Tathagata advised him to practice cultivation until the end of the season.
- Lord Buddha, Angulimàla is a dangerous killer, is a great disaster for everyone. The Buddha should be careful to watch his guard.
- Do not be afraid, King Ahimsaka is now a mendicant mendicant, and he has a lot more prospects.
- If so, then it is a great blessing for people in Sàvatthi, people will run out of fear room, be safe to do business. What I did not accomplish with heroic strength, the Blessed One was accomplished by compassion, not only save the people from the fear of death, but also the murderer Angulimàla into the holy way. I beg for mercy.
Ānanda was chosen as the regular attendant for the Buddha
In about 20 years from the day the Buddha attained enlightenment far, he had all eight attendant [5] . It is the teacher Nagasamala, Nagita, Upavana, Sunakkhatta [6] , novices Cunda, Sagatta, Radha and Meghiya. But they are nominated only temporarily. No one has enough virtue to do regular attendant for the Buddha. This year the Buddha was 55 years old, one day he said to the great virtue Sarriputta:
" Sariputta, now I am older. When the Tathagata says "Let's go this way", some people go the other way. Some people also dropped the bowl of Tathagata. So you choose a person to regularly attend Tathagata. [7]
- Buddha, the Venerable Sariputta said, I would like to volunteer for regular attendant servant Exalted.
- No, the Buddha replied, he was too old and had to deal with more important things such as organizing, operating and guiding the congregation.
Venerable Moggallana and many other disciples also volunteered to be the attendants, but the Buddha refused. Particularly Venerable Ānanda remained silent.
During a lecture at the lecture hall at the temple in Dong Vien, the chief disciples of the Buddha come up with two important suggestions: 1. Ask the teacher Awananda regularly attend the Buddha; 2- Suggested from now on, after the season of residence, the Buddha will return to Sàvatthi to lower.
The first proposal is made by great virtue Sariputta. Venerable said:
- Brother Ananda is the most persistent memory of us. Memory of the Brothers is strange, this world is not the case. Whenever the Buddha teaches something that is present in Brother Ānanda, the teachings of the Buddha do not fall away. When reciting the Buddha's teachings, Brother Ananda repeats without missing a sentence, does not take an hour. So, if the brother is the Buddha's attendant, he will have the opportunity to listen to what the Buddha says, whether for a crowd or for a person. Any teaching of the Buddha is not the same, should be fully recorded as a source for posterity. In the past 20 years, we have been foolish to fall off and lose a lot. So Brother Ananda should because of all the mendicant and for future generations that take responsibility for the Buddha's attendant.
The masters present at the meeting all agree with the opinion of great virtue Sariputta. Venerable Ānanda seemed reluctant. He said:
- I find there are many inconveniences if the brothers appointed me as the Buddha's attendant. Not sure the Buddha was willing to let me do the attendant. Because of that, it can be said to favor the people of Saka kya. For nun Maha Pajàpati who is a model of a man who is also very tough. Rahula, from the day of being novice, never sleep in the net of the Buddha, or sit alone with the Buddha. For me, too, the Buddha never gave me close contact. Particularly, I am afraid to bring the scurry whenever any fraternity was called by Buddha to rebuke.
Speaking of this, Venerable Ānanda looked at the merits of Sariputta and continued:
- As with Sr. Sriputta. He was praised by the Buddha as the most intelligent and talented among the disciples. Brother is a great help to the Buddha in teaching as well as in the organization. Most of the proposals of the brothers were approved by the Buddha. Therefore brother was jealous of some brothers, slander. I'm afraid if I am the attendant I will not avoid those things. I do not want to lose my temper with any fraternity.
Venerable Sariputta laughs:
- For me, I do not mind being misunderstood or jealous, of course if you avoid it is good. It is more important to realize that what really benefits the majority, you have to have the courage to do and take responsibility, even if someone told you misrepresented should not be discouraged. Brother Ananda, we know you are very intentional. But if you do not accept as the attendant, the Dharma will be greatly disadvantaged, not only for the present mendicant congregation but also for many generations to come.
Venerable Ānanda silently thought long ago and said,
- I agree to accept the attendant if the Buddha himself told me to do, and if no fraternity objected. Also, I ask the Buddha to approve the following eight petitions:
1- The Buddha did not give me the robes by his devotees.
2- The Buddha did not give me good things for his good deeds.
3- The Buddha did not allow us to live together in a net.
4- The Buddha did not allow me to follow him when he was offered his own master.
5- The Buddha would be glad to go with me when I was invited by a patroness.
6 - The Buddha will gladly allow me to guide guests from afar to the audience.
7- The Buddha will gladly allow me to come whenever I have doubts.
8- The Buddha will gladly repeat the discourse that he preached at my absence.
Venerable Upàli commented:
- The Ānanda monks offered were just; I'm sure these things will be approved by the Buddha. The fourth thing I do not feel good. If he did not follow the Buddha when he was invited to live, how could he hear the Buddha's teachings to repeat to us? Maybe it is new things that Buddha never said. It is better to have another brother with you.
Venerable Ānanda laughed:
- Article brother Upali say also unsettled. In the case of a sponsor only enough to give two people only?
- Then that day the Buddha and two brothers a little but eat less stars.
The teachers laughed happily. The problem has been solved, the teacher talked about the Buddha's annual residence in Sàvatthi.
Sàvatthi now has two large dispensaries, Jetavana and Pubbras. There is also a small clinic for them. Taking Sàvatthi as a central practice center for the Buddha and the almighty congregation is very convenient. In neighboring countries, anyone who wants to see the Buddha without knowing where he is, will come to Sàvatthi in the retreat. It's an equal opportunity for everyone. The mendicants and mendicants from the neighboring countries may come to Sàvatthi to settle down with the Chancellor without any obstacles, as great benefactors like Anāthapindika and Visakha make vows to offer food, medicine, Clothing and shelter for any marshal coming here.
After the end of the talk, the monks went to the net of the Buddha to present the opinions of the masses. The Buddha gladly accepted both suggestions.
Venerable Ahimsaka (Angulimàla) was assaulted [8]
After the settling season. One day, the great virtue Ahimsaka went to the monastery alms, stumbling steps, his face is covered with blood. Svastika Venerable see to run to the great virtue. Venerable Ahimsaka asked him to bring in Buddha. Today during the alms round in the city, the great virtue identified by a group of people is the great virtue is Angulimàla. They came around and attacked the great virtuous by the stick. Ahimsaka put his hands in front of his chest, absolutely not fighting back, nor fled, letting them be beaten. A moment later, seeing him fall to the ground they left. He tried to stand up, looking back to the clinic.
Seeing Ahimsaka in a traumatic state, the Buddha stepped forward to support him. Venerable Ānanda hurriedly took a bowl of water and brought a towel. The Buddha wiped his face and wounds for Ahimsaka. He told Svastika to pick herbs to cover her wounds, and tore off an old old garment with bandaged cloth. Ahimsaka's old-fashioned dress was ragged and covered with blood and dust. Your bowl is broken. Buddha comforts:
" Ahimsaka, be brave enough to bear the consequences of the suffering you have sown over the past few years. I should pray that the pain of today's teachers alleviates the suffering of those who have lost their children, lost their father, lost their mother, lost him, lost his mother. He developed great mind compassion, great joy, great discharge to clean off evil and hatred. You should be happy to think that you have paid your blood debt today.
- Buddha, you understand. I was happy to pay my blood debt. It is gratifying to get a debt. I pray that your pain today will relieve the suffering you have caused.
- That's good, so let's talk about amnesia for a few days. Mr. Ananda will find you a sangati and another bowl.
Venerable Ahimsaka bowed out.
Venerable Ahimsaka saves a pregnant woman [9]
Venerable Svastika instructed Ahimsaka to return to his teacher. Ahimsaka smiled to tell the story of what happened not long ago. One day, while Mr. Ahimsaka was about to enter the alms-gathering, he met a poor widowed pregnant woman under a tree in the street where she was absent. The painful moaner is alone and still can not deliver. Emotional exclamation exclaimed "Suffer too much suffering!", And he rushed to Jetavana to report to the Buddha what to do to help the pregnant woman. At that time there was no nun or monk there. Give newspaper :
- Come to the mother and prayers like this. " Hey girl, from birth to now I have never tried to commit the life of a species. May it be that thanks to that truth she gave birth to peace . "
- Lord, can not be so liar. You have committed many lives already!
- If so, he said, " Hey you, from the day I was born in Dharma enlightenment, I have never knowingly violate the lives of a certain species. I wish that through this fact she gave birth to peace . "
Mr. Ahimsaka immediately ran to the groaning widow. He stands hidden behind the tree and repeats exactly as instructed by the Buddha. A few minutes later, the inmate was given a baby's peace. He went to find someone to help.
After being assaulted, Ahimsaka was lying dormant in his bed, and on the third day he opened his eyes to see Ananda sitting next to him, smiling,
- Brother Ananda, I have caused many crimes to fall into hell, thank the World Honored Rescuer. Today, debt is paid off, I enjoy good results.
After saying this, Ahimsaka closed his eyes and entered nirvana immediately afterwards. The Buddha was informed, saying shelves:
"He has done evil deeds
"Know to improve the practice
"Like a full moon without clouds
"Illuminate the whole world. (Dhammapada, verse 173)
According to the Mahaparinibbāvatara Sutra, volume 2, Kiều Trần Như, p. 533, the choice of Ānanda as the attendant occurred in the capital Rājagaha (Rajasthani) on the 31st. After the Buddha refused the voluntary Venerable Kondanna and Venerable Sariputta for old age reasons, these two together with Moggallana Venerable advised Venerable Ñnanda should be a regular attendant for the Buddha (According to this hypothesis is not correct).
