Shakyamuni Buddha 's Appreciation
31.

3- Lower 23 in Jetavana (-567)

Teachings are the finger of the moon

Early in the spring of 567 BC, the Buddha returned to Sàvatthi to prepare for the twenty-second residence season. Here he had the opportunity to lecture on the problem of disobedience. It was during a talk, mendicant Arittha said that the Buddha's teachings are the truth. During a lecture at the Jetavava monastery, the Buddha said:
- Teacher, the Tathagata of the Tathagata is low, high depending on the level of the audience that said. For lovers of worldly pleasures, Tathagata says life is suffering. For the newly Bodhisattva Bodhisattva, Tathagata said all legal world beings are pure. For those who desire worldly possessions, Tathagata says all things are impermanent, unable to hold. For those who seek happiness, Tathagata says the realms of Nirvana are full, ordinary, lost, net.
"Teachers,  the Tathagata of the Tathagata is not the truth, but not the truth, just as the fingers point to the moon." The finger is not the moon, but the moon does not know who to finger. See the moon, because truth can not think, so can not use words and inference can be described.  Teachers should not accept the words, in the text that must be followed in order to understand the truth ,  also Like a finger-lifter to see the moon, anyone looking at the finger only can not see the moon.

Catechism is the raft of the river. [1]

The Buddha continued:
- Teachers, the cradle is the raft to take people to the river, from the fascination to the terminal. Passengers must use rafts to cross the river of life and death. But when reaching the shore then the raft becomes useless, should not raft on the head that go.
"Teachers, all Dhamma Tathagatas taught as Four Noble Truths, Four Noble Truths, Four Noble Truths, Five Essentials, Five Powers, Five Elements, Noble Eightfold, Suffering, no, formless, undefended ... are the things that teachers need to learn, understand and practice to attain enlightenment and liberation, not the teachings you must worship.

Speech and sermon [2]

This year the center of their study in Sàvatthi has up to 500 female nuns. She Pajāpati often invited the Buddha or the noble from Jetavana or from Pubbàrma to teach. Monk Ananda's attendant was assigned by the Buddha to the task of nominating professors to the nuns. Recognizing that Venerable Bhanda is a true monk, but seldom speaks, some of the monks suggested to the monk Ananda should appoint Bhanda Venerable once tried. Venerable Bhanda was appointed and many teachers said so can not refuse. The next day, after begging, the Venerable priest came to a clump of forest to eat the clams. The boy finished, the monk went to the nunnery. The monks were warmly welcomed by the nuns. Monk Gotam asked the court to come to the court.
From above the court, Venerable Bhanda said:
- Dear friends, I'm not used to speaking in public. Today, I would like to read to my friends about the verse that I often recite:
"Stay in static wear,
"See the Dharma, return to the source,
"No hatred of violence,
"Peace is flowing.
Arguing to be arrogant,
"Live peacefully,
"Beyond coping,
"It is the greatest pleasure.
Reading the verse, the silent meditator entered the city.
The sermon of the Venerable Bhanda is only a few dozen hours, but the virtue of the venerable ni made them very happy. Some nuns with her nanny Gotama asked the Vicar to add. She Gotamì thought, go to request more information about the meaning of the verse. But Venerable Bhanda just reread the verse again and stepped down the court.
This story is presented to the Buddha. It is recommended that from now on should only send lecturers to argue. The Buddha taught:
- Teachers, advocates need but the direction of the realization is more important. The sermon is often more effective than the sermon. From now on, Ānanda should get the general public opinion in nominating professors for nuns.
Then the Buddha said shelf:
"The speaker speaks
"It is not possible to attain virtue.
"People listen to little learn
"But understand the meridian
"It is the people who achieve the religion
"Ability to transmit ." (Dhammapada, vol. 259)

Jìvaka asked the Buddha about vegetarian eating salty [3]

After the retreat, the Buddha of rajagaha (Rajagaha) to visit and teach mass here. After a few days at Venuvana, Buddha went to Mt. Griddhakùta in his retreat on top of the mountain. The Buddha preferred here because the place is pure, cool, spacious and very convenient for maintenance and meditation.
For a few days, Jìvaka asked the Buddha to visit his mango orchard at the foot of the mountain to refresh him and give him the opportunity to look after the Buddha's health. Jìvaka has set up a small net for the Buddha in the mango garden. He cooks daily vegetarian food offerings to the Buddha. He advised the Buddha should take a thirty-minute leave for him to give nutritious. This medicine is made up of roots, leaves and fruits. One day, sitting in the mango garden, Jìvaka asked,
- Buddha, someone rumored that Bhagavan mendicants were allowed to eat meat fish. They also said, "Gotama allows him to kill animals as food for him and the mendicants." Lord, I know these rumors are not true, but I want to hear the Sun directly speak about this.
- This Jìvaka, Tathagata does not allow killing creatures, any kind, to make food for the mendicant. Tathagata has reminded the mendicants like this:  If you see people kill animals to make food offerings, they must refuse, not eat. If you do not see, just hear that people have killed themselves for animals, then they will not receive that food. And moreover, even if not seen, not heard, but once suspected that people because of themselves that kill animals must also refuse, not eat.
"Hey Jawas, in alms giving, people give themselves what food they should receive, not be complimented." But in case you have seen, heard or suspected that people were killing animals for themselves, then I must Thus refuses to nurture and protect their compassion.
Unless they do not have vegetarian food available, it is time for them to share their available meals with the teachers. New offerings for the first time, do not know, offering salty food, the mendicant also can use life to spare the patroness, and also give the patroness the opportunity to gradually associate grace with relief.
"But according to the precepts, killing is not supposed to take things that are harmful to the lives of any animal.
- Buddha, you see fasting makes the body light and less disease than vegetarians. Meat and fish tend to be more toxic than vegetables and fruit. For ten years now I have been vegetarian, I have been healthy and loving. Today I am very glad to hear that the Buddha himself teaches this.
The Buddha praised Jēvaka and offered his invitation free of charge to the Venuvana monk who told the novices about the sanctuaries in daily life.

Sister Subha met her name [4]

Having made many blessings in the past, Ms. Subha was reborn in the family of a Brahmin revered in Rajagaha. She has gorgeous beauty, so it should be named Subha. In the second season of Buddhism, she has heard the Buddha sermon several times and has become a loyal faithful. When Nāpa Pajāpati Gotamì was allowed by the Buddha to form the nuns' Congregation, she requested ordination to join the congregation. Ms. Subha diligently diligently practices Samatha and Vipassana meditation. She has achieved the third saint (Anàgàmi).
One day, in the early spring of 566 BC, Sister Subha determined to go to Griddhakùta to visit the Buddha. By the time she arrived at the beautiful mango garden of Mr. Jìvaka, a young man walked up the street, teasingly teasing. She said:
" Sir, I am a monk, do not touch me. I did not do anything offensive to him, I'm not fault that he blocked my way? I am very fond of the Dhamma and very much respects the precepts of the gurus. I practice the Dhamma and strictly adhere to the Vinaya to keep my body and mind pure. Why are you blocking my way?
- Hey, you're still young, your beauty is pure, your body is gorgeous. What are the benefits of joining the Church? Remove the yellow yoga cover covering her beautiful body. Come here, she, let's enjoy the pleasure in this blooming forest of flowers, let's have fun with your love of men and women. Hey, come here with me!
- Hey you, he was filled with mind thoughts of lust, but my heart was pure. Your heart is stirred up by despicable aspirations, but I am tired of this filthy human body. Why did you always stand in my way?
- Miss, do you see, behold, fragrant flowers wafting of the wind. Enjoy the spring is blooming, joy in joy. Come enjoy life in this jungle-like jungle of butterflies, find the romantic pleasures of spring and summer. The trees were full of flowers, leaning against the wind, seemingly singing to welcome us. But she fell into the forest alone, how to find happiness in it?
"Oh, this gorgeous beautiful young woman, like a splendid golden statue of glittering light, like a dancing fairy, come here with me. Benares silk dress, she will be more beautiful nobody.
Your pigeon's eyes are daydreaming, beautiful like you two stars sparkle in the middle of the night, I will bow under your authority if we can enjoy together in the wilderness She was all my life, my lady more than my life.
"If you take note of my sincere pleasures, we will live together in the lay life and enjoy the pleasures of life. The lovely ladies will take care of and provide for her. Everyday needs in the magnificent buildings, everyday she will be decorated with fresh flowers, perfumed aroma, I will be happy to give her many gold jewelry jewelry. , With shining diamonds shining brightly.
"Every night, she would lie on her bed in a cozy, comfortable and luxurious bed with the fragrance of timbers that covered her with a smooth, light, warm, and comfortable pillow. On soft pillows swan feather.
"Hey, you should not waste your youth to live a pure life, because then you will grow old, weakened, decayed like a lotus withered in a wild pond.
- Hey, look at this part of the weak phytoplankton that he enjoys? What is it that you regard as sweet in this foul filthy body?
- Oh! Her eyes are as fond as the eyes of a shy, shy child, as bright as two bright stars. Look at that my heart is numb, full of aspirations. Her face is more beautiful than the full moon, her body is more alive than the statue of gold. Look at that my heart fluttered passion. But for her eyes, it was invaluable to me. There is nothing in the world that I love with your eyes.
- He blocked the way a monk who left the family life. Your desires are crazy, and you are on the wrong path. Your despicable desires will be punished by the king's law. Everyone knows that King Bimbisàra is a loyal follower of the Gotama Teacher. Even if he has escaped the king's law, his conscience will never be peaceful. After the general network, he will fall into hell to bear penalties iron bed, bronze pillar.
"Sir, do not use sweet words and sensual pleasures in the world to tempt me in vain, I do not know what craving is, my happiness is the High Path that opens in front of me, If you wish, go to tempt the woman who is not clear enough to see the body is dirty, temporary, and this life is impermanent, suffering, no, not self .
"I am a disciple of the Buddha, who has gone beyond all kinds of pollution, has eradicated all craving, and is using the Prajna boat to take me straight to Nirvana. I just like to live in solitary places to easily return to the self as static.
"Hey man, he was clinging to this body as a precious and precious thing of his own, while it was originally a bubble, a balloon. These eyes are just two bubbles filled with tears, mucus, and bloody pus, and if only because of these eyes you blocked my way, I do not regret anything cheap.
When she came here, she surreptitiously raised her hand and hooked up an eyeball for the duke, who said,
- Here, my eyes are here. Take it away, then get out of my way.
The name was frightened, screaming:
- Ouch! Hey monk! Noble noble high! I have made a great mistake. The level of her volunteer cheer! May your monk be restored! I never dare to repeat this crime again. Beseech my teacher forgive me for forgiveness
Finished, the name ran away. Sister Subha found the amateur Buddha in the mango garden of Jìvaka. Standing in front of the chancellor, she looked up, suddenly her vision was restored as it was, and she attained Arahantship.
After listening to Subha's story of this tragic story, the Buddha ordered that the women go away from nowhere, go alms, go to the village, wade across the river, across a field Or a forest. At bedtime, they also slept with another mendicant to protect each other.

Brahmàjala sutta [5]

In the middle of the spring of 566 BC, the Buddha began his journey to the north, preparing to return to the Jetavana, entering the 24th. Along the way, while the mourners silently watched the breath to nourish the head Reciting, the back of the mendicant team with two teachers Suppiyà accompanied by the teacher. The two talked about the Buddha and his teachings. They deliberately speak out loud for the mourners to hear. Suppiyà raised the public opinion and reason to excite the Buddha and the Buddha Dharma. On the contrary, his disciple, Brahmatta, is devoted to the Buddha's teachings and the Buddha's teachings, but also cleverly uses his words and concrete examples to praise the Buddha, making the mourners go in front of him. Sympathize with him.
That afternoon, the Buddha and the mendicants spent the night in Ambalattha Forest, near Nalanda. This forest is a royal resort. King Bimbisàra has allowed monks of any sect to temporarily use the Ambalatthikà forest to rest. That night Suppiyà teachers also spend the night here.
The next morning, the mendicants talked about yesterday's attitude of two teachers Suppiyà. Hearing these words, the Buddha said:
- Teachers, when listening to people attacked, defamatory Tathagata or Dharma, or almsgiving monks, teachers should not be heartbreaking or sad. Because it is harmful to the pure mind of the teacher. When they hear people praising the Tathagata or praising the Dhamma and the almsgiving congregation, teachers should not be happy, contented and fulfilled. Because it is also harmful to the pure mind of the teacher. Teachers should calmly comment on whether the criticisms or compliments are true or false, where, where, and where to give the opportunity to learn more about the experience.
"Teachers, most of those who praise the Three Jewels, can only see the beauty or the small appearance, such as the way of life, practice morality, lifestyle meager, attitude of leisure only. Few people see the wisdom, enlightenment and liberation that are the essence of the Dharma. Only the person who practices the realization knows the value of the transcendence of this part.
"Teachers, in the world how many doctrines and how many arguments, Tathagas are clear all know." The sectarian incessantly argued and assaulted each other for the differences between the doctrine and argument. No matter how different it is, there are no 62 fundamental arguments. Thousands of philosophical and religious doctrines nowadays are just around 62 of the fundamental arguments so there are jams and places. wrong.  Only Dharma enlightenment and liberation is beyond all the seats stuck and wrong thoughts, perceptions and feelings , because  Dharma enlightenment characterized liberating knowledge [6] .
Then Brahma Net Sutra Buddha says Luc Twelve Ants [7] (Brahmajâla Sutta), separating the contents of the 62 is accepted and outlined the mistakes of place this is accepted. Of the 62 pubs (pubbantàkappika) there are [8] :
A) -  18 attachments to the fall (attà, atman) and the world (loka) in the past , including:
4 advocate falls and the world is often,
The four directions of falling and the world are both permanent and impermanent,
4 advocates the fall and the world is boundless, is boundless, is both infinite and infinite, is neither boundless nor infinite,
4 advocacy sophistry, no clear answer,
2 advocated fall and the world arises without cause at all.
B) -  44 future falls ,  after death , include:
16 advocate fall is the perception left after death,
8 advocated a self-perceptual fall after death,
8 advocate falls are not also not perceptible after death,
7 advocated killing, after death no longer fall,
Nibbana 5 is both the five pleasures and the meditational pleasures of this life.
After separating and presenting the falsehoods of 62 attachments, the Buddha said:
- Hundreds of thousands of currently disputed doctrines in the world of philosophy and religion are trapped in the net of the 62 ants that can not break through. Teachers, teachers do not go to that fascinating net to lose all the time and opportunity to practice liberation. Do not go into the net of thought.
"Teachers, all these attachments arise from the deception of thoughts, perceptions and feelings, because they do not know the truth of thought, When one sees the origin and nature of thought, perception, and feeling, one becomes aware of the impermanent nature and the delusion. When one sees the nature of impermanence and the arising of things, one sees the true  nature of Satanas , loses oneself, falls, and is no longer entangled in craving, anxiety, or fear. At the moment all the arguments, arguments are all analytical, no real sense.
After listening to the Buddha's teachings of the Brahma Siddhartha, the Ananda saw little loneliness, no longer questioning the theories of the heathen monks anymore.

Sixth Patriarch [9]

Svastika Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh heard the Buddha's teachings on 62 attachments, including the insights of six pagans of the time, but he did not understand. I went to the Moggallàna Venerable for further clarification on the insults of the pagan priests.
Venerable Mahamoggallana tell Svastika know is the oldest religion in India is a  Brahmin teacher [10] (Brahmana) take Vedas (Vedic, Vedic) as the original, advocated polytheism. According to the Rig Veda, the world is divided into three worlds: Heaven, Earth and Earth. Each scene has 11 gods. Heaven has 11 angels. The realm does not have 11 gods. Land of the land has 11 gods. Brahminical activity is centered on sacrifice, as sacrifices are considered the only means of contact with the divine spirits or blessed. In addition, Brahmins must know divination and numerology. The Brahmins are hereditary, other class members can not become brahmins. The brahmin priest is full of status preferences,
In the 7th century BC there were six sects emerging in India against the traditional wisdom of Brahmanism, and created a very strong influence among the people. Because these six sects are not Buddhist, the Buddhist scriptures are called "foreign professors" to avoid confusion with Buddhism. The outlaws include:
1 -  Sanjaya Belatthiputta : Two Venerables Sariputta and Moggallana are in this cult before being ordained by the Buddha. This sect advocates Agnostic (Doubt), Adaptive and Sophisticated. They claim that human knowledge can not attain absolute truth (agnostic). So there is only relative truth depending on circumstances, space and time. Truth in this situation, at this time, this locality may not be the truth in another circumstance, or in another time, or in another locality. Cultivators do not need high sutras, do not need to understand the absolute truth, because the search is not understandable, just eat in accordance with the customs and habits of their local, Attainment. (Truong Bo 2: 31-33)
2-  Ajita Kesakambala: This denomination advocates Material, Destruction and Pleasure, denying the cause and effect. They assume that man is made up of four elements of earth, water, wind, fire. After death those four factors disintegrated, nothing else. There is no good evil, blessings, conditions, retribution, past, future. According to this sect, the purpose of human life is to enjoy life while still alive. (Truong Bo 2: 22-24)
3-  Makkhali Gosaleiputta : This sect was born in Sàvatthi, who advocated Destiny and Nature. The world and beings are born under the law of nature. Human pleasures and destiny are conditioned by the laws of nature. Man can not resist, it is better to be happy according to the purified law of samsara, after 8,400,000 lives will be freed. (Trinity 2: 19-21)
4-  Pùrana Kassapa (Phu Lan Na Ca Lettuce): This sect advocates no value Moral, no good karma. The concept of good and evil is just a misconception created by humans to deceive. (Truong Bo 2: 16-18)
5-  Pakudha Kaccana (Ca La Da Ca Chien Dien Aries): The religion of human undertakings not real, but only a combination of 7 elements being immortal earth, water, wind, fire, suffering, Fun and network. Living and dying are just the aggregation or dispersion of the seven immortal elements. Human life and suffering are created and decided by Para nimmita vasa vattin. (Truong Bo 2: 25-27)
6 -  Nigantha Nàtaputta is also known as Mahàvira or Jina: He was born on the outskirts of Vesla, the founding of today's Jaina. He died at age 72 in Pàvà, near Kusinàrà. This sect advocates absolutely not killing, forbids killing animals to sacrifice, the maximum austerity about eating, not dressing. They think that the destiny of life is created by previous life, can not be changed by the practice. To practice in this life is to bless the next life, until the end of karma is liberated from life (jìva) to become free soul (attà, atman) is not subject to material bond in samsara anymore. (Truong Bo 2: 28-30)
Venerable Moggallàna said:
- Hey Svastika,  Brahmin teacher but is the most ancient religion, but only exclusive to those who descended caste Brahmin. Those of other classes can not become brahmins. It is an absurd form of dictatorship, because not all brahmanas are perfect, nor all persons of other classes are unwholesome. Brahmin monks just take care of ritual sacrifices to avoid disaster, be blessed, born in heaven Brahma. That is to deny the intrinsic value of man. On the contrary, it is the moral value in the human heart that is truly precious, that it can elevate man to the holy one.
"Svastika, the teachings of  Sanjaya Belatthiputta can only help a cultivator become a good person in society, can not help the practitioner achieve enlightenment and liberation .
"This Svastika, Ajita Kesakambala 's  doctrine, is not only good at making up for people who are depraved, but who enjoy low desires, do not know how to cultivate noble qualities .
This Svastika, according to the Dharma of  Makkhali Gosaleiputta , the practice of hyacinth floating on the river, let go of the old life, death should not be innovative , do not need to study hard or build any What, because they are all natural law?
"Svastika, according to Pùrana Kassapa , does not need to  cultivate because there is nothing good, nothing is evil, no one wants to do anything." This teaching leads to a disorderly society, robbery and rebellion. .
"Svastika,  according to Pakudha Kaccana , the life and suffering in the world are created and decisive by Thien Thien, so human beings are like heavenly beings. There is no right to decide at all, all of them are controlled by Heavenly Self. People have no responsibility at all.
"Svastika, the Nigantha Nātaputta has many good points, such as the forbidden killing, the ban on killing animals for sacrifice, the ascetic practice, the  lack of education , but still trapped in the collapse, can not reach liberation. Because of the insecurity, they lack the spirit of their own accord, and because of their insistence, they insist that they do not wear clothes, and that their deeds displease mundane people. Transmitted to the icy regions of the Himalayas, the monks here also wear white clothing to withstand cold weather, and they argue that this life is to pay off the karmic effects they have created in the past. It's like saying this life I was imprisoned for my previous life to steal.
Venerable Svastika thanked the Venerable Moggallana, and all that day he thought deeply that the Buddha's Dhamma was sublime, beyond every insight and argument. The Buddha's teachings enable the practitioner to liberate one's self, before liberating oneself from samsara .

Balaka Upàli would ordain the Buddha [11]

Upàli is the most intelligent and wealthy layman in the city of Balaka, in northern Magadha. So he was called Balaka Upàli so that he would not be confused with other Upalis. He is the greatest benefactor of Nigantha Ntaputta. This denomination, at that time, was heavily populated by the faithful.
At mid-spring, the Buddha resided in the mango orchard of Pàvàrika in Nàlanda. One day, Daggha Tapassi, a high priest of Nigantha Ntaputta, who had begged for alms in Nalanda, visited the Buddha to discuss morals. Through the story, the Taoist Tapassi said:
- Monk Gotama, our dhamma does not use the word karmani (danani) only. There are three types of panic attacks: body, mouth or mind. Crime is heavy, mild, heaviest is the crime committed by the body.
" Tapassi, according to our teachings, is the most important, because mind is the root, the master of action and speech.
Tapassi forced the Buddha to repeat this three times so that the latter could not be denied. Then he exclaimed leaving. He went to Naktaputta, describing the details of the conversation. Nafapta laughed, saying:
- recluses Gotama serious mistake. Sin in the mind and where words are not necessarily sin. Only crimes committed by the body in a particular way are important. For example, when people are thinking or talking about killing people and not practice, then they are not guilty. Only when it is really murdered will the new crime be clear, undisputed. Tapassi, you mastered our Dhamma.
While Nätaputta and Tapassi talk, there are many lay people present, including Balaka Upala. Listen to this, Balaka Upàli volunteer to meet Buddha to confront and point out the wrong place of the Buddha. Nathaputta agreed, but Tapassi feared that Upàli would be conquered by the Buddha. Nätaputta smiles and says:
" Tapassi, do not be afraid of the Upàli will become a disciple of Gotama. On the contrary, maybe Gotama would become a disciple of Upàli, unknowingly.
Tapassi tried to stop it but could not. Balaka Upàli came to see the Buddha and the conversation between the two was very exciting. This is the first time this intellectual meets the Buddha. Through seven consecutive examples, the Buddha showed Upalis the idea of the basis of sin. Knowing that the Nigantha sect was very close to killing, the Buddha asked:
- Upàli, while on the road, many people did not intentionally step on the insects are not guilty of not?
- In this case, cardinals Nataputta sure because unintentional pedal should not guilty.
- This is Upàli, so the god Napapatta has recognized the idea is the basis of crime already.
Come here, Upàli no longer seek to quibble anymore. He acknowledged that through the first examples he had seen the Buddha was right. He admired the virtue and wisdom of the Buddha. He immediately pay homage to the Buddha, please do disciples. Buddha said:
- Upàli, think carefully. A person like him can not make a rational decision. Come back to think for the first time.
- The Lord, I was thinking very mature. Blessed are you turn to rely on the Buddha, Dharma, Sang. I am very happy to find the path of true righteousness. I am very happy to see the Blessed One.
- Upali, he was a great benefactor of the Nigantha cult. So do not follow me to stop giving offerings to the teachers there.
- Exalted is great. Lord Nigantha is not like that.
Upon hearing that Upàli had followed the Buddha, Tapassi reported to Naktaputta. He does not believe. They both go to the House of Upàli to be told by Upàli the truth.
Believe this, the mendicants are very happy. Give newspaper :
- Teachers, good or not is that the monks are diligent or not. We should not be happy about the prosperity. We should be free of prejudice and pre-emptiness.

Young Brahmin Sonadantà [12]

After visiting and teaching in Nalanda, the Buddha went east, to Campa, the capital of Anga, 150 km from Nàland. Campa is now the city of Bhagalpur. Anga is under the protection of King Bimbisàra. The population here is crowded, fertile land, lush flowers. The Buddha resides in a cool forest, next to Gaggar Lake. In the lake, the lotus blooms.
Upon hearing that the Buddha dwelt at the shores of Lake Gaggar, the crowds visited, offered and heard the sermon. Sonadantà is a Brahmin youth, who is well known for local excellence, also wishes to visit the Buddha. Other brahmanas prevented, but Sonadantà smiled saying that the Buddha is a brilliant person, there are very few in the world, if not to meet is really a waste of opportunity thousands of years. Grandfather :
- I have to go there to learn. To know who more than who at any point.
Hearing Sonadantà say so confidently, the intellectuals who accompany him are very crowded to hear the debate between them. Upon arrival, after greeting, Sonadantà opened his words:
- Ladies and ascetic Gotama, we hear of recluses reputation long ago, today we are here to learn his teachings. Do not know what the characteristics of his teachings?
- Ladies and gentlemen, before we talk about our Dharma, I would like to know what is good in your Dhamma. Please tell me how a true Brahmin monk should be?
- Gotama, a true Brahmin priest, should have the following five conditions: First, there must be a beautiful face, and second, to know the technique of praising the Vedas. Third, there must be pure brahmin blood in seven generations, fourth is virtue, fifth is wisdom.
- Of those five, which is the basis, which is secondary?
- All five conditions are equally important, can not be missing a condition at all.
- Sonadantà, what do you think? If there is a brahmin who is virtuous, intellectually superior, praising the great sutras, does he fulfill his monk's mission? Is he a true Brahmin monk?
- Just temporarily, but nonetheless if more beautiful face and still more pure bloodline.
" Sonadantà, if there is a beautiful brahmin, pure blood, but lack of morality and wisdom, then what do you think? Does that fulfill the mission of Brahmin monks?
- Of course it can not fulfill the mission of a priest without moral and intellectual.
- Sonadantà, do you see that moral and intellectual conditions are more important than face and blood?
- Sir, it is true.
Speaking of which, nearly 500 Brahmins have raised their hands against Sonadantà. They condemned Sonadantà was put into the trap of the Buddha to accept the blood condition is not important. Buddha intervenes:
- Dear guests, if you have faith in your representative Sonadantà, then please be quiet so that I can continue to talk to him. If you do not have faith in him, then tell him to be quiet so that I can talk to you.
Everyone back silent. Sonadantà says:
- Gotama let me have some words with my friends.
Then Sonadantà returned with 500 Brahmins. He pointed to a young man sitting first and said,
- Do you see my niece is Angaka sitting there? Angaka is a young, handsome, handsome, elegant manners. Regarding the little face of Angaka. Angaka understood the three Vedas, the grammar, the grammar and the technique of mantras, which everyone knows. Angaka also has pure blood for seven generations, including father and mother. But suppose Angaka murdered, robbed, sexually abused, lied, drunk, would you accept Angaka as a Brahmin? Dear friends, the new virtuous and intellectual conditions are important. This is a common fact for all people, not the reality of Gotama.
Sonadantà said here, the cheering up again. Waiting for the chant to stop, the Buddha asked Sonadantà:
- But in the other two conditions of morality and wisdom, can one thing be reduced to just keep one thing?
- Gotama, can not be. Because of the virtuous wisdom that wisdom is developed; Thanks to the wisdom developed that morality is more strict. As well as hand to wash your hands, feet to brush foot. Morality and wisdom must coexist that development, indispensable.
- Yes, Sonadanta, virtue and wisdom that development must come along together. But how to develop morality and wisdom to the highest degree?
- Have to chant the Veda mantra as technically as possible and as much as possible.
" Sonadantà," he said, "must chant the Veda mantra in the right way." So what exactly is the technique?
- Must have a good voice, to know where to climb, where low ... to sound in harmony with meaning, has a strong impact on the listener's mind, just touch the gods.
